NVDA | Is a screen reader installed?

Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) is a free and open source screen reader for the Microsoft Windows operating system. It provides feedback via synthetic speech and Braille, enabling blind or vision impaired people to access computers running Windows. It includes support for over 20 languages and can run from a USB drive with no installation.

To activate NVDA

  • Start menu
  • All Programs
  • NVDA
  • (to quit right click the NVDA icon in the system tray, by the clock)

Did you know?

  • You can also run the portable version of NVDA from your USB memory stick
  • When running, NVDA uses some keys to navigate around the screen - this is called the Virtual Buffer and can be switched off by using the keyboard shortcut Insert Spacebar
